Prelude

Welcome

Prayer of the Day
God of love, you teach us a life journey that calls us to deny what is unhealthy and unloving. Lead us in that pathway. Awaken us to the ever-new abundance that is ours through your Word, in the name of the One who died and rose, Christ Jesus, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.  Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Water is poured into the baptismal fount as we are reminded of the certainty of God’s love and forgiveness.  We are invited to remember our baptisms, our unity in the family of God and the abundance of God’s grace for us and for all creation.

Hymn 754 Help Us Accept Each Other

Children’s Message

Scripture: James 3:7-10 and Ephesians 4:25-27, 29-5:2

James 3:7-10
7 All kinds of animals—birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea—can be tamed by us, 8 but no one can tame the tongue. It’s a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 We use it to say, “Praised be our God and Creator”; then we use it to curse each other—we who are created in the image of God. 10 Blessing and curse come out of the same mouth. This shouldn’t be, my sisters and brothers!

Ephesians 4:25-27, 29-5:2
25 Therefore, let’s have no more lies. Speak truthfully to each other, for we are all members of one body. 26 When you get angry, don’t let it become a sin. Don’t let the sun set on your anger, 27 or you will give an opening to the Devil.
29 Be on your guard against foul talk. Say only what will build others up at that moment. Say only what will give grace to your listeners. 30 Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, all rage and anger, all harsh words, slander and malice of every kind. 32 In place of these, be kind to one another, compassionate and mutually forgiving, just as God has forgiven you in Christ. 5:1 Try, then, to imitate God as beloved children. 2 Walk in love as Christ loved us, and offered himself in sacrifice to God for us, a gift of pleasing fragrance.
This is the Word of the Lord, thanks be to God.
